My beautiful Autistic Child,
One day when you are older, you might come across stories on the internet. Stories about parents who hurt their children- Autistic kids like you.
You might see lots of parents saying they feel sorry for those parents.
You might see them saying things like - they can understand why they hurt those kids because they are Autistic and so hard to live with.
You might see them saying things like - any parent of an Autistic child could snap and hurt their child. But I want you to know something.
They are wrong.
You might be like those children. But I am not like their parents.
I will never be like them. I promise you this.
I wanted you before you were born, after you were born, and when you were diagnosed.
I still want you when you have tough days, when I have trouble understanding you, when I am tired, when I am frustrated and when I would rather please myself.
I loved you before you were born, after you were born, and when you were diagnosed.
I still love you when you have tough days, when I have trouble understanding you, when I am tired, when I am frustrated and when I would rather please myself.
I will never use your pain to justify my feelings.
I will never expose you to others in your vulnerable moments.
I will never blame you for my problems.
I will never try to hurt you. Ever.
You are my precious child. I will love you. I will help you. I will protect you. Always.
I hope you know that there are plenty of people who think you are valuable.
I hope you know that you are loved and appreciated, just as you are.
Your Mum.
Beautiful…
